Scan Accuracy & Valuation Method

How VisualBucks Values Your Items

VisualBucks uses image-based analysis to help identify objects, evaluate condition, estimate rarity, and generate a practical resale value range. Choose the scan level that matches how much detail you want.

Every scan is designed to give users a useful valuation report based on the photos provided. Clear images, visible labels, maker marks, signatures, barcodes, model numbers, condition details, and multiple angles can significantly improve accuracy.

Accuracy varies by image quality, object category, visible markings, condition, rarity, market availability, and whether comparable sold-market data can be reasonably inferred or verified.

Scan Options At A Glance

All scans review what is visible in your photos. Deeper tiers spend more time on condition, identifiers, rarity, and resale reasoning.

Fast Scan

Roughly 1–1½ min (up to 90 sec)

Quick ID, basic condition read, labels/marks, broad value range.

Deep Analysis

Roughly 2–3 min (up to 180 sec)

Careful condition & rarity review, maker clues, demand, stronger pricing.

Premium Research Grade

Roughly 4–6 min (up to 360 sec)

5 images, construction & hallmark detail, strongest in-app estimate.

1

Fast Scan

Quick valuation when you need a fast answer.

Fast Scan is built for speed. It reviews your 3 required images and produces a quick identification, estimated value range, and basic resale guidance. This is the best option when you want a fast starting point before deciding whether an item deserves deeper review.

  • Uses 3 images: full object, close-up/detail, and label/mark/identifier.
  • Costs 1 credit.
  • Runs with a 90-second hard cap.
  • Best for common items, thrift finds, collectibles, household goods, books, toys, tools, and objects with visible identifying details.
  • Gives a practical early estimate, not a final expert authentication.
1 credit 3 images Roughly 1–1½ min Up to 90 sec

What Fast Scan examines

  • Full-object photo — overall shape, category, and general type
  • Close-up / detail photo — materials, surface wear, and visible construction
  • Label / mark photo — barcodes, stamps, maker marks, model numbers, or tags
  • Identification — best-guess object name and what it appears to be
  • Value range — broad low–high resale estimate from visible clues
  • Quick guidance — basic confidence level and early resale notes

Rough accuracy

With clear photos and recognizable item details, Fast Scan is designed to provide roughly 70%–85% identification accuracy and roughly 60%–75% pricing accuracy for many common or visually identifiable objects. Accuracy may be lower when photos are blurry, markings are missing, the item is rare, or market comparisons are limited.

Best for

  • Quick resale decisions
  • Yard sale and thrift store checks
  • First-pass object identification
  • Deciding whether to run a deeper scan
2

Deep Analysis

More detailed valuation with stronger reasoning.

Deep Analysis gives VisualBucks more time to evaluate the item. It uses the same 3 core images but performs a more careful review of condition, rarity, market behavior, comparable item logic, and resale strategy. This option is better when the item may be collectible, vintage, unusual, branded, signed, marked, or potentially higher value.

  • Uses the original 3 images.
  • Costs 3 credits.
  • Runs with a 180-second hard cap.
  • Reviews visible condition, identifiers, category, likely demand, and resale range.
  • Provides a stronger confidence estimate than Fast Scan.
3 credits 3 images Roughly 2–3 min Up to 180 sec

What Deep Analysis examines

  • All Fast Scan factors — with more time spent on each image
  • Condition grading — visible wear, damage, fading, chips, rust, or missing parts
  • Identifiers — brands, makers, editions, signatures, serials, and date clues
  • Category & era — style period, manufacture type, and collectible signals
  • Rarity reasoning — how unusual the item appears from visible evidence
  • Market-style logic — likely demand and comparable resale behavior
  • Resale range — tighter value estimate with condition-aware pricing notes
  • Listing guidance — practical notes for selling or researching further

Rough accuracy

With useful photos and visible identifying evidence, Deep Analysis is designed to provide roughly 80%–92% identification accuracy and roughly 70%–85% pricing accuracy for many items. It is especially useful when the object has maker marks, edition details, labels, signatures, serial numbers, or distinctive construction features.

Best for

  • Antiques and vintage items
  • Collectibles
  • Books and ephemera
  • Cameras, electronics, tools, decor, toys, and specialty items
  • Items where condition affects value
  • Users who want stronger pricing confidence

Premium Research Grade Analysis

The most detailed VisualBucks valuation option.

Premium Research Grade Analysis is the highest-detail scan level in VisualBucks. It is designed for users who want the strongest identification and pricing estimate available inside the app. This scan uses the original 3 images plus 2 additional research images, giving VisualBucks more visual evidence to evaluate construction, condition, identifiers, materials, markings, scale, and resale potential.

  • Uses 5 total images.
  • Includes the original 3 images plus 2 additional research images.
  • Costs 5 credits as a direct scan, or can be reached through upgrade paths.
  • Subscriber-only.
  • Runs with a 360-second hard cap.
  • Best for items that may be rare, valuable, historically interesting, difficult to identify, or condition-sensitive.
5 credits 5 images Roughly 4–6 min Up to 360 sec Subscriber-only

What Premium Research Grade examines

  • All Deep Analysis factors — with the longest review window in the app
  • 2 extra research photos — angles you choose for missing details (back, interior, hallmark, scale, etc.)
  • Construction & materials — build quality, hardware, stitching, glazing, or patina
  • Completeness — lids, cases, accessories, boxes, and parts that affect value
  • Scale context — size cues when shown in the image
  • Hallmarks & fine identifiers — small stamps, engravings, or edition marks
  • High-value condition factors — issues that matter most for rare or collectible items
  • Strongest resale strategy — detailed range, confidence, and seller-oriented notes

Rough accuracy

When all 5 images are clear and show the object, identifiers, condition, and important details, Premium Research Grade Analysis is designed to provide roughly 88%–96% identification accuracy and roughly 80%–92% pricing accuracy for many visually researchable items. It gives the strongest VisualBucks estimate, but accuracy can still vary depending on photo quality, object category, visible evidence, rarity, market availability, and authentication risk.

Best for

  • Potentially valuable objects
  • Rare or unusual finds
  • Items with unclear markings
  • Antique, vintage, collectible, or historically relevant objects
  • Items where condition, completeness, or authenticity matters
  • Sellers who want a stronger listing strategy

What Affects Accuracy?

VisualBucks can only evaluate what is visible in the images and supported by available visual evidence. A better scan usually means a better result.

Accuracy can be affected by:

  • Blurry or dark photos
  • Missing maker marks or labels
  • Hidden damage
  • Missing measurements
  • Reproductions, facsimiles, or altered items
  • Rare objects with limited comparable sales
  • Objects that require hands-on testing
  • Jewelry, artwork, signatures, and high-value antiques that may need expert authentication

How To Improve Your Valuation

For the best possible report, photograph the item like you are showing it to a professional buyer.

  • Use bright, even lighting.
  • Capture the full item clearly.
  • Include close-ups of damage, wear, texture, and construction.
  • Photograph all labels, signatures, stamps, hallmarks, serial numbers, barcodes, and edition marks.
  • Show scale when possible.
  • For Premium Research Grade Analysis, use the 2 additional images to show the most important missing details.

Three scan levels let you balance speed, detail, and confidence. All tiers use your submitted photos — no hands-on inspection.

Important Note

VisualBucks provides image-based valuation estimates for resale guidance. Results are not a guarantee of sale price, authenticity, legal appraisal value, insurance value, tax value, or auction result. High-value, signed, rare, historically significant, or authentication-sensitive items should be reviewed by a qualified specialist before major financial decisions.
